Shakespeare Festival 2024

2nd July 2024

31st July this year saw the return of our Fantastic Forest Shakespeare Festival. This celebration of the work of the Bard was a great success with a huge number of talented Year 7 students strutting their stuff on the stage. The individual plays were supplemented this year by the inclusion of a troupe of “Mini-Shakespeares” (complete with quills)  to link the works together.

The winning performance of the festival was Julius Caesar performed by Mr Dressel’s class. Their dedication to the play really shone through. Notable performances also included Kayden (coached in his role as Richard III, along with the rest of the class, by Mr Saynor and Mrs Westland) as well as an enlightening retelling of Othello by Miss Khan. Miss Aggio (assisted by Mrs Ciccazzo and Mr Skidmore) trained a superb group of Rude Mechanicals from A Midsummer Night's Dream with a stormy Tempest from Mr Dressel completing the plays this year. Mr Light provided a great soundtrack to the festival with some original compositions from the students. 4

All in all it was a really enjoyable afternoon and we are grateful to all parents and carers who come to our performance. It means a great deal to the students to have an audience for their efforts.  The Forest is also  very lucky to have our PTA (ably organised by Miss Allen) who provided refreshments. Not every secondary school is so well supported so we are very grateful for their presence.

We are already looking forward to next year. We will have young ladies in our performances so that will be a really exciting development to look forward to.

So, finally, a huge THANK YOU to all who contributed and we are already planning our next Shakespeare Extravaganza.
