Here come the girls!
4th September 2024Today was an historic and momentous day for The Forest School as their new co-educational cohort arrived for a September to remember.
To welcome the new cohort, the school invited families to a first day breakfast where parents, family members and new students sat together for tea, pastries and chat with staff and peers before the students were collected by their tutors for their induction. The place was abuzz with excitement and activity - one parent adjusting his son’s school tie, another buying a last minute calculator, one proud mum taking a picture of her daughter and friends by the ‘class of 2024’ board; a complete community feel. The children really shone in their smart new uniforms and with confident smiles for their parents.
“We are delighted that our newly commissioned toilets were completed in time for today, finished to a really high standard and specification. We will be opening our three new changing rooms, reception and visitors’ toilet before half term. These are all further investments and improvements in the school to make it efficient, safe and a place we can all be really proud of. It has been an incredibly busy year since the DFE confirmed last July that The Forest would be fully CoEducational, and the journey only really starts now.
Headteacher Shirley Austin continued, “We feel humbled that so many of our community have taken time out of their busy schedules to be part of this memorable, historic day. This is a fantastic start to their childrens’ seven year journey as we embark on our joint parenting and education. When we welcomed these children in the summer as pioneers, we talked to them about our shared aspirations for them, and our “Aspire to become elite.” motto. At Forest they will certainly find a place to be elite in their field, and we look forward to sharing in their efforts and successes. The ‘class of 2024’ will be one to watch."
