Josh Wiseman
We are super proud of Y10 student Josh Wiseman who, besides his studies for his GCSE exams next year, ended his 2024 athletics season, last September, by securing 1st place in the u15 300m final for Berkshire in the SEAA Inter-County Championships. His winning time placed him 13th in the UK rankings. This was a memorable achievement having missed out on other national competitions earlier in the season.
Over the recent winter months, Josh continued to train with his Reading AC sprint training group, focusing on the transition to u17 400m. With training going well, Josh entered the Indoor London Games at Lee Valley at the end of January, winning his heat in 52.68s, securing the qualification standard for the Indoor National Championships, which were being held at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
More recently, Josh competed at the Indoor Nationals. His opening heat saw him drawn in lane one against two top 5 u17 athletes and he did enough to secure a spot in the semi-final. Josh put in a brave performance in a competitive semi-final race, leading the first lap but ultimately finishing 5th, missing out on the final. Josh currently sits 21st in the UK u17 400m rankings - a truly great start to his season!
Josh has spoken positively of his experience and the opportunity to race more experienced and older national athletes. He hopes to build on this with more success as he competes alongside his Reading AC team mates in 2025. Well done, Josh, great commitment!
